    London, UK - 6 November 2002, 16:00 GMT - South Korea,
Australia, China, Taiwan and Japan have been amongst the most targeted countries
in the Far East and Oceania by hackers in the first ten months of 2002.
South Korea suffered 1,151 overt digital attacks followed by Australia at
1,008, China at 935, Taiwan at 887 and Japan at 683.
    "Historically we have noticed
digital attacks in the Far East over the China-Taiwan standoff in 1999 as
well as the US-China spy plane incident in April 2001. This current wave
of attacks from Malaysian and Indonesian hackers, starting from a low base
in 2001, has now begun to affect the whole region and beyond," said
DK Matai, Chairman and CEO of mi2g.
